BNP Paribas REIM continues to deliver sustainable performance

BNP Paribas REIM is committed to investing in real estate in living assets. In short, this means focusing on those that live, work and interact with buildings and seeing the whole life cycle of a building, and not just taking a snapshot of it in its current state.

By working in this way, BNP Paribas REIM is driven to ensure that institutional and private investors benefit from a specific monitoring of sustainable performance of assets across Europe. To do this, BNP Paribas REIM have established a dedicated Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy which aims to future proof assets, by managing risk and anticipating upcoming environmental threats, through concrete changes.

As Nathalie Charles, Global Head of Investment Management at BNP Paribas Real Estate points out, “Our CSR strategy is pragmatic, relevant and embedded into our business as a leading European investment manager.”

It is in this way that Environmental Social Governance (ESG) integration has become one of the five guiding pillars for BNP Paribas REIM’s activity. As such, in BNP Paribas REIM’s 2020 ESG strategy, three key ESG objectives have been set out: cutting carbon emissions, managing assets responsibly and boosting stakeholders’ awareness to achieve positive change. Each objective is monitored through specific key performance indicators (KPIs).

During the Salon de l'Immobilier Bas Carbone (SIBCA), held from 22-24th September, 2022 at the Grand Palais Ephémère in Paris, the association for the Development of Low Carbon Building (BBCA), in partnership with BNP Paribas Real Estate, Bouygues Immobilier and its developer Urbanera, Elioth by Egis (project leader) and the Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment (CSTB), unveiled their new label: the BBCA Quartier label.

While the previous BBCA new construction and renovation labels, launched in 2016, focused on buildings, which quickly became the benchmark for exemplary new or renovated low-carbon buildings, the new BBCA Neighborhood label measures carbon emissions at a neighbourhood level. It allows us to go further in the process by highlighting best practices and illustrating exemplary neighborhoods in terms of decarbonisation. Indeed, while the building scale allows for very effective concrete actions, it does not, by definition, take into account its environment or, more generally, the ecosystem in which a residential or office building sits within.
